This site and whole area has lots of potential but is suffering from general lack of tourists to the area to make it work. Great location with amazing views and lots to do in the area, walking , cycling, riding, eating. Site seeing villages and ancient monuments. Ditch the crammed in beach resorts with no room or character. Travel inland for something different.
WC blocks excellent with continuous hot water. Laundry has variable price list and you can get a good 1 hr wash for a few euro.Resturant and menu look good value although we didn\'t try but was only open 3 days in the week. Probably due to the lack of visitors. You can find some pitches with water, drainage and electric. Only one female speaks English who appeared disinterested in her job. The site still hasn\'t been cleared of weeds and doesn\'t look like it will be. The pool was supposed to be open when we stayed but we were told that it\'s sanitation certificate wouldn\'t be issued until two days after we were leaving. We would definitely return again. Stayed for 4 nights and got the camping red stamp to get 5 nights free when you have 4 stamps. Good deal.
This site is a little piece of heaven. It’s quite rustic which is what we like. Our pitch was at the top of the site on a plateau with 360 degree spectacularly breathtaking views of the surrounding Sierra Nevada. We just couldn’t get enough of it. There were amazing sunsets. Olvera is a beautiful village with lots of history and the Via Verde is a fabulous cycle/walking path on a disused railway track which runs for 36km. You can see lots of Griffin vultures which are pretty amazing, we had our own air show. There are some steep hills, especially the road to and from the Via Verde. Even our electric bikes couldn’t make it and we had to push them but it was worth it. The only criticism is the showers in the top shower block have no division to put your towel/clothes and you have to get dried and dressed in the wet. But the positives certainly outweigh this small negative. We loved this site and really didn’t want to leave and will definitely come again.
Very clean and pleasant campsite on outskirts of Olvera. Plenty of space and large pitches. Loads of hot water.Only downside - no tumble dryer and we had wet 2 nights so could not do washing! Would recommend
Helpful staff. Good size pitches with superb views of the mountains. Fairly basic but clean and hot water in facilities. Great location in the Sierras cycle or walk into Olvera. Really enjoyed the Via Verde
de la Sierra cycle track on disused railway track.
We stayed here for three nights, two of which, had gale force winds, as the site is at the top of a steep hill, with nothing around it, there was no protection and the caravan was buffered all night long. A visit to the town of Olvera is well worth it. We did venture into Marbella, which is about 1 hour 40 minutes away. We found the site ok and deserted.
It is clear that this large campsite is very under used. Obviously a large investment has been made here, possibly EC money as shown by a board in the car park. Such a shame as if you want to be in the sierra or via verde area it is such good value. OK, it may need TLC in some areas but....the views are stunning, facilities fine (in my opinion), restaurant looks well used by locals so must be good. However, the gem is Olvera itself. Easily cycled, safely along a cycle path. A real working Spainish town with an exceptional church at its top. A must visit for 2 euro. I ahve seen lots of cathedrals and I rate this church as highly impressive. Full of the statues they use for their processions and Santa Semana. In fact there was one on 1 May, workers Day and I saw them preparing the huge dias that they carry through the streets. A very nice 2 night stay.
Having read some of the reviews we were in two minds about staying here - but we're glad we did as the advantages easily outweigh the disadvantages. We liked the large pitches with amazing views, the clean toilet blocks, the pleasant swimming pool and the friendly bar with good sharing dishes (raciones). The site is well positioned for visiting the lovely nearby towns of Olvera, Setenil las Bodegas and Zahara de la Sierra. However, most the site lacks shade (try to camp on the northern side where the trees are more established) and the weeds need better control.
Expensive laundry, Great views. Olvera is the start of a brilliant cycle ride along a disused railway track to Puerto Serrano. This trip can be done on a road bike as the track is quite smooth. We saw many caged birds and a Goldfinch on a very fine tether.
Good location for visiting Ronda, Setenil, Zahara, Olvera etc. The site has lmpressive views, but is rather like a large car park. Water pressure and temperature an issue in toilet/ shower block.
This is a lovely site with friendly staff and good sized pitches. Very quiet. Worth a visit just for the views which are stunning.
