As the campsite includes an adventure park the site tends to get very busy and NOISY during weekends. I can\'t imagine what it would be like during holidays but I\'m afraid it won\'t be much better then. Nevertheless, on \"ordinary\" weekdays this is a very nice site. The toilets and showers are well maintained and so are the bathrooms. From here several sights can be visited, e.g. the gardens of Fishacre Coleton, Overbecks, the village of Cockington, the town of Dartmouth.
The wardens are the best thing about this site. Extremely helpful, friendly and welcoming (especially Kathy and Paul). The pitches are large and flat but consist of loose grit . The site gets very busy and noisy at the weekend due to it's adventure park. Do not pitch too near to the toilet block, as it has a games room over it which is very noisy - up to midnight on one of our weekends and on Monday the lorries come in to empty the sewage tanks. It took 6 hours and the smell was horrendous. We had planned a day by the van but had to go out. The internet is very expensive; but once you start using it your 24 hours starts ticking, so you don't actually get 24 hours use. The receptionist also told us it wasn't good enough to download films or games, only emails. Also the mobile signal is poor, but a neighbour discovered his mobile worked in the games room. Otherwise join the ranks of people wandering around looking for a signal. We would have to go off site to get internet on our smartphone. The site is located 7.5 miles from Dartmouth, in beautiful grounds. A bar or bistro and free internet would greatly improve this site, as it is a long way from anywhere with no pavements for walking. The nearest pub is 1.8 miles away. 15 mile round trip if you want fresh bread in the morning.
Excellent value for money. For this we had a generous hardstanding pitch and free entry to the theme park which would be ideal for children of all ages and has some interest for adults too (birds of prey displays, animal park etc). The pitches are reasonably level in the main, being on terraces but the site itself is on quite a slope so ifyou have mobility issues I would advise letting the friendly reception staff know when you make your booking in the hope that they can find you a pitch on one of the lower terraces.
