Great views of surrounding mountains in all directions but be warned that ACSI rates do not apply to pitches at the ends of each row (very best views) - this is on display at the reception but if pitching up out of hours easy to miss. Despite the price advertised it will cost you more, so would recommend paying by card. The tourist tax is quite high in all of Switzerland (for the locals too) Meringen a short walk and very nice with cable car at the far end. Plenty to do and great local walks - free tourist card very useful.
We stayed three nights and would have stayed more if our itinerary would have allowed. We got the ACSI rate and received a tourist card that gave us a discount on the Reichenbach Falls, the Aareschlucht Gorge and the Swiss Open Air Museum at Ballenberg, which is a short bike or bus ride away.
The site is excellent with grass touring pitches at the top end away from the road, with water and electricity conveniently located. The facilities are modern and spotless, including washing and drying facilities in the main block. Short walk into Meiringen town centre via quiet back roads and a choice of good supermarkets and restaurants. Bread available to order from the office the night before. Out of the main season, the office is only open for a short period in the morning and late afternoon but you can just pitch up during the afternoon and check in when they open.
The only other thing to note is that the Swiss Air Force Base is just down the way and you get fast jets taking off and landing during the day overhead. We didn’t find this intrusive, and as a bit of en enthusiast, the sight of F5s and F/A18s doing their landing circuit overhead was spectacular.
A lovely site in pleasant surroundings, spotlessly clean toilets and facilities and helpful staff. My only gripe is the added extras to the Acsi rate of 20.25 Swiss francs per night with tourist tax per person per night and refuse tax per night. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would return again however wish that the ACSI book clearly stated these added extras
The setting for this campsite is stunning. Sitting on the plane between hills and mountains on all sides, the site is an easy walk into the lovely town of Meiringen (you can avoid the main road by taking one of the many footpaths). There are numerous walking opportunities in the area and the transport system is good (if a bit confusing to start with!) I spent three nights here and on one day walked to the amazing Reinbach Falls and on the other paid to visit the gorge between Meiringen and Innertkirchen... it was well worth it.
The campsite itself is spotlessly clean and all services are of the highest standard. It wasn't busy when I stayed so plenty of room. There is water and electricity next to the pitch. The tourist tax includes a tourist card but I couldn't find much it could be used for and the rubbish must be disposed of in municipal bags that you pay extra for. A highly recommended site and using Acsi off Peak card it still only works out the same as some of camping and Caravan club sites in Britain.
