Excellent site, it\'s like being in the middle of an extinct volcano, very friendly, caravans, campers, studios, mobile homes, very friendly.
We managed to get a pitch near the beach, it was adequate, we had a good Moroccan Groundsheet down, so the gravel wasn't a problem. The shop and restaurant were fine, the swimming pool near the beach is fabulous. Not a lot in the vicinity, so in a Motorhome, you have to rely on bikes. The shower / washing up facilities seriously need updating, other than that, we had a nice relaxing visit
It matters not which review site you choose they all point out the fundamental problem with El Portús; that being:- the total lack of effective site management and an absolute disregard for the customer base by the site owners. Negative reviews are being totally ignored, as are the onsite complaints of the site users. The same site faults have been repeatedly reported over several years and obviously disregarded by the management. Those with language skills will note that it is not just the Northern Europeans who are remarking the site shortcomings; therefore, a lack of understanding cannot be blamed for the ongoing management apathy.
I would challenge the ACSI inspector to actually try taking a shower in each and every shower block, to judge the validity of the numerous customer complaints posted on review sites. If the ACSI inspector has any influence with the site management/owners, then that influence should be used to drastically improved onsite conditions for ACSI members, yes?
We have camped as a couple, and with our two small children here, on more than one occasion. We have always found that staff super friendly, the pitch sizes more than adequate for our 2 bedroom tent and all the child related stuff that comes with small people. There are pitches with and without electric. You tend to get a bit more space if you go without electric. Bathrooms are always immaculately clean ,and plenty of hot water. The onsite supermarket makes the most fabulous chocolate orange bread, and nut and raisin bread daily. The pool is very large, and never busy, as most prefer to go on to the adjoining naturist beach. For those travelling with small children, try and get yourself a spot towards the left hand side of the beach, as you are looking out to sea, as this end has a shallower entrance into the water, than to the right. A great family site with a park for the kids, and plenty of space to ride their bikes
We had intended to stay for a week but left after 2 nights. The site is very stony and dusty (even in early June) and although the pebble beach is very pleasant it is totally enclosed. We tried to walk up onto the cliffs at the east side of the bay but the path was very ill defined and precipitous. As the site is miles from anywhere it is really only OK for naturists who simply want to lie out to aquire their tan. Facilities were clean and plrnty of hot water. The pool was huge, excellent temperature and surprisingly unused!
An OK campsite. Not as clean/nice as Almanat. A lot of pitches open dusty and dirty. Toilet facilities not so good. Beach nice but in the outback a bit. 6/10
Bonito camping y agradable estancia.
Very nice camp with beautiful sea. Electrical cabinet is terrible end absolutly not safe. Everything is almost spent, other swimming pool, and need radical reconstruction including stores.
However, it is very user friendly and we want to return, if possible.
Run down campsite. No investment in to the toilet facilities or campsite for the last 15 years. The pitches are ill defined and as a consequence there is no respect for your pitch by other campers who will rudely walk through your area. Electrics are from the stone age and widely spread. The staff are quite defensive if you have a complaint and rude if you argue your point. Having said this, it is set in a beautiful bay, with generally a very clean pebble beach with superb, safe swimming. It is a typical Spanish run campsite!!
