Marmite! Some love it, we didn't! one third of this huge site is a resident 'shanty town. A couple of permanent people even jokingly referred to it as Soweto. We were situated midway between the shop and the sea, either way it was a good walk. We had major problems getting Wi-Fi reception, told it was free - but it didn't work. We could buy minimum one month (2 days to install) not a lot of use when you are here for 10 days. Half way through our stay they switched from free to paying by the day but it still didn't work satisfactorily.
On the plus side, the beach is good for dog walking, the pitch is fully serviced, the restaurant is good, and there is good security. We certainly would not come again and cannot recommend.
Well after hearing about this site I booked 2 weeks. I lasted 3 days and one of those was travelling there. It's a shanty town of horrible buildings and various pitches. The site is in the middle of nowhere and a distance to anywhere The pitches on one side of the gravel roads get the winter sun and the others not till after 10am. Toilets were dated and had signs of over use not surprising the amount of people on here. It's extra for the pool so I didn't bother and it's that far to reception I went on my motorbike. The bar is down on the beach so if you are at the top of the site near reception you will be sober by the time you get home. I had a pitch by the toilets that got hardly any sun and my awning and van stayed wet most of the day. The staff do their best and I was offered another pitch which had good tree cover. Would have been great in the summer!!! Lady manager said it had been designed 20 yrs ago with summer in mind. Given winter is now the busiest time in campers it might pay to modernise the blocks in turn.
This is a huge camp site, almost a thousand touring pitches which are all hard standing and spacious, there are 500 static pitches which looks like a shanty city never mind a town, this is a shame as it defiantly spoils the site, the touring pitches are well maintained with hedging, all very good, toilet blocks are good with plenty of hot water, swimming pool area very nice but no sun beds, reception friendly with good understanding of English, just as well as the site seam to be full of Brits on the winter migration. Sporting facilities, this site has the lot and seams to be well used, the supermarket on site is a large Spar, and if they don't sell it it don't exist,, there is a bar down on the beach which I did not visit due to the 20 minute walk from our pitch, as I said it is a big site, if you enjoy cycling you will love this place and can cycle for miles mostly off road. I would recommend this site and would probably return.
In dry conditions there is a lot of dust thrown up by passing cars on site which can cause problems.
Water and drainage on pitch which are surrounded by tall hedges. Good cycling along the Mar Menor.
We were reluctant to visit this site after hearing bad reports of it. However it is a very good site.... Huge and a bit soul-less somehow but it has everything you could need.....especially if you have a dog that needs a bath now and then! It has the best dog shower I have ever used...I want one! Even though it is a huge site it is very quiet and pitches are separated by high hedges so nice and private... I don't think we will go back but it is really a very good site. Sorry I can't find a reason we disliked it because it has everything....and more!!
We booked for 4 nights but after 2 we had had enough. I cannot see why people return here year after year including the caravan and caravan and camping clubs. It has a lot of toilet blocks with small showers where you have to leave your clothes outside with one toilet roll outside the toilets. It is like a shanty town and you can purchase anything from trailers to bungalows. Although the pitch was fully serviced you had high hedges all around you and was a tight squeeze for an 8 meter Motorhome with tight bends. Shop good and Bar with Tapas also good but it's a long walk. Beach is very small. Not one for us so will not return.
We were booked in for 5 weeks in December/January 2014. We managed 3 and that was only because we were awaiting delivery of our 2015 ACSI guide to the site. The campsite itself is quite good, apart from the toilet blocks, but the surrounding area lets it down badly. The shower cubicles don't have dry areas where you can get changed in private. The laundry sinks are too small with a trickle of luke warm water and there aren't enough washing machines. There's a small beach with a tapas bar cum restaurant and a large Spar supermarket on site open all year. The pitches are aligned east-west separated by tall hedges. When the sun is low in December your pitch either doesn't get any sun until early afternoon or looses it mid afternoon. To get to the nearby urbanisations you need to walk across uneven ground which can be quite muddy. When you get there you find a ghost town of empty apartment blocks and closed bars & restaurants. There is a bus to Cartagena from outside the campsite, but it doesn't drop off at the camp site on the way back necessitating either a walk over the muddy waste ground or along a busy road with no footpath. When we were there the campsite were offering English TV and a secure internet connection through an outside company, but there was a week's waiting list to have it installed and the minimum rental period was a month. When it didn't work they were very slow to fix it and didn't turn up when they said they would. There is a huge Camping and Caravanning Club rally on throughout the off season. If you like beautiful scenery, peace and quiet and want to feel like you're actually in Spain, don't come here. If you want England with sunshine where you can park up with a large group of Brits, eat English food and watch English TV without ever having to leave the camp site or speak a word of Spanish, then this place is for you.
a very well positioned site ,lovely view from the restaurant and bar on the beach.showers are a bit outdated but the water was always warm, well stocked shop and good prices. some pitches can be a bit bad to get in
Beach and sea-very dirty.
WiFi is poor, very poor!
Showers are very narrow.
Swimming pool- closed.
We would never return.
Came here with friends and the site was very busy with Camping and Caravanning Club rallies. Therefore the pitch we were on was okay but difficult for us to get our caravan on (don't have a mover - just brawn!). But walking around we could see the other pitches were much better. Good selection of toilet/shower blocks (once we'd found them). Right by the sea and very popular with the windersurfing community. Restaurant right on the beach and good, reasonably priced food. Easy to cycle into La Manga. Will come back.
