If you love the outdoor life: walking, cycling and generally relaxing, Birkelt is the site for you. Usually you can choose your own pitch which are grassed with little hedges between to mark the pitch area. Toilet/shower facilities are kept very clean, very large sunfield, local staff speak many languages are friendly and helpful AND you can take your dog(s). FREE poop bags and the forest is not far away for great dog walking
What a lovely site, I can hand on heart say that this is one of if not the best site that we have stayed on. We were very lucky with the weather and I don\\\'t think it rained once, I would imagine that if it had it would have been a bit muddy. We visited in early sept and most of the pitch grass was gone, but it was fine.
free Wifi on each pitch, lovely clean heated toilet blocks with very good child friendly facilities. Pool was lovely too. The take away does chips by the bag and wow what a huge amount of chips!!!
Its not the place to go if you want lots of action, but for peace and quiet its amazing.
There is a small town which can be reached by steps a lot of steps!! but everything else is to be driven too. There is a small cactus supermarket about 10 mins away which is also open on a sunday, the other option is a massive auchan in Luxembourge city.
in my opinion this is a great site and one we will return to
We camped here for two nights in a tent. It is a large campsite that obviously caters well to children (we didn't have any with us).
We had selected a camp plot close to the reception office for convenience, but that also meant that we were close to the centre of activities (and noise). If you have kids with you, this would be a great choice. If you are looking for a small, quiet location, this isn't the best choice.
Our plot was a good size that allowed us to park the vehicle next to the tent.
The camp shop is very well stocked and had a nice selection of fresh breads and pastries each morning. We cooked our own food but the campsite has a restaurant and a snack shop.
There were only two showers in the bathroom block closest to us but the facilities were clean. We had a good wi-fi connection.
The site is well located for sightseeing in the surrounding area. A day trip to Vianden and Vianden Castle is very much worthwhile.
We loved this site. We were part of a large group and were very well looked after with pitches in the same area - a good thing as the site is enormous. The toilet facilities are very good and kept clean. The pitches are separated by rose hedges which are lovely. Our party had a meal together in the restaurant, which was very good value. The area is beautiful with well marked walks and the town of Larochette is easily accessed from the site. We chose to use the Wheel chair/pram path down into the town as the steps are very steep and were delighted by the small chapel and stations of the cross carvings alongside the path. Definitely a place we would revisit if we were in the area.
Superb area for touring about, stunning scenery and towns in both Luxembourg and Germany, especially Bernkastek-Kues. The pitch I was on was quite small and probably impossible to access without a mover, had to do some serious pruning of the hedges to be able to get around the awning, and the drain for the super pitch was impossible to use as the water had to run uphill. One big problem with the pitches is the habit of people putting down non-breathable groundsheets and putting their breathable ones on top to keep them clean. This I noticed with a lot of dutch caravanners. The pitches were just a patch of mud, and with the rain we had not good. There were red squirrels collecting their winter nuts which was a delight to see as in Britain they are a very rare sight. Overall a good holiday and I would visit the country again but stay maybe on the Moselle, which is a brilliant drive along.
A really nice campsite (generally). Sanitary Facilities: Clean and tidy - didn't seem over stretched.
Pool: Only went in once all week because it looked dirty - wouldn't have gone in at all, but didn't want to disappoint my 6 year old. Kids pool was filthy - didn't see anyone in it all week! A shame as this was one of the attractions of the campsite to us, when booking.
Animations (and shop) - all in Dutch! A bit 'naughty' for a supposedly 'International Campsite'. We are definitely not anti Dutch as we had just stayed with our Dutch friends for a week but unfair on the few other French/English/German families around. My 6 year old daughter didn't really have anyone to play with all week or talk to during animation, a shame as she has always made friends with French/Dutch/English children on other sites.
Pitch: I had booked this a year in advance and paid extra for the choice of pitch (a good job as we couldn't have got out twin axle, awning and car on many other
