We should have read the ACSI instructions on how to get to the site! We went up from Figline but I followed my satnav which tried to take us up a narrow road with tight hairpins in Lucolena. The road eventually petered out into a dirt track and we had to reverse and retreat back down the hill. The approach to the site from Figline is steep and long but OK. I don’t think either of the other 2 roads up to site are viable with a caravan. Also on a drive to Siena we found we were using dirt roads in the area which the sat nav didn’t pick up and which weren’t even marked even on the Italian touring club detailed map we bought. We found a good sized pitch for which we were charged the ACSI rate although technically it was rated as ‘large’ for which the ACSI rate doesn’t apply. In principle they have different charges for different sized pitches.
The pool complex is first class and pool was heated and popular (and this in May at a site about 2,500 feet above sea level!). Restaurant was also good as were the showers and toilets (toilet paper provided). A niggle is that none of the showers are temperature adjustable which is fine if you like the temperature they deliver. The shower temperature though fluctuated from scalding hot to cold which made it unpleasant. I really don’t understand why some campsites only provide fixed temperature water supplies to showers especially when other facilities are excellent. Seems poor service to me. A minor niggle is that lighting in the shower/toilet block goes off too early in the morning and comes on too late at night making it dark in there.
The site is advertised on ACSI as providing gas cylinder exchange but they don’t. The campsite suggested a supplier in Figline so we went there but they didn’t do gas either but did direct us to another place where we did eventually get some (Campingaz at Nencini Sport in Terranuova).
WIFI coverage on our pitch was not great- slow response. There is a 500MB limit, which seems unreasonable in that it isn’t time based. You could be here for 1 day or 15 days but the 500MB limit still applies. In my view there should be a free per day limit with top up if more needed. We had to buy a top up which is supposed to also provide guaranteed performance but it was still poor.
When booking it might be worth clarifying the rules on keeping your car on the pitch. There are a large number of static cabins without parking and a large car park outside the gate. It seems that out of season cars are allowed onto pitches but this probably changes when the site is busy. Personally if I knew I wouldn’t be able to have my car on my pitch then I wouldn’t choose this site, but I don’t see this mentioned anywhere in the ACSI details or on the site website.
This really is an excellent campsite. The swimming pool complex is really nice and all the staff are friendly and most speak pretty good English. The only downside is the camps shop is a little expensive. However this still represents good value for the standard of campsite.
Stayed on this site on our way down and on our way back. A bit off the beaten track to get to but well worth it. Very nice friendly staff, lovely surroundings and free wifi if pitched near the pool.
Great site. Our van door lock broke and we were locked out. The our site came to assist and helped us get back in our van. Nice site and well maintained.
A great campsite on the top of a hill, don't be put off with comments on the difficult drive or tight hairpins, follow the instructions in the Acsi book. The road is quite wide and the bends are all navigate lie, we have a 7.4m caravan and a 5m car and had no problems, just need to drive slowly in a couple of places. The site is quite shaded unless you pitch adjacent to the pool. Facilities are good, staff are very friendly and all speak English. Pool is good and the restaurant is excellent. There are also organised walks which are worth doing. The surroundings are gorgeous. We would definitely go back. Very good place to Visit Florence and Siena. Both are excellent places to visit, and easy to get to on the train from Figline station, though parking can be a challenge
Stayed at this campsite for the Eroica bike ride and it was quite brilliant. The facilities, staff and surroundings would be hard to match, we will most certainly stay there again. There is plenty to do at the camp plus the beautiful Tuscan countryside and a huge nature park on the doorstep.
