Travelling party: Couple

This is a large site that is primarily filled with static caravans and bungalows. It’s also not a quiet place. There are a few touring pitches dotted amongst the statics. The statics are substantial installations with caravan, awning, gazebos and separate kitchen tents often with fences around! Some of these are very large and well kept, but others are tatty especially when they haven’t been opened up after winter storage. The touring pitches were mostly small and the ground quality was poor being either very soft soil or stony poorly prepared bare earth under the pine trees. Shade though was good and there were water points for each pitch. We found a pitch at the far end of the site and were glad we had our bikes with us – the site is that big.
The reception service for such a large site was poor. There was no structure to providing information and we had to make several visits to get details of the various aspects of the site facilities. It really felt like hard work. A simple booklet or just a script for the staff to follow when people register would help. The reception team though were very friendly and spoke good English.
There are numerous toilet/shower blocks on the site but for us the nearest one didn’t have any hot water and only squatting toilets. We preferred to walk to the next one which had good hot showers but only 1 seated toilet. Also appeared to be only 1 washing machine for the whole site.
The onsite pool was good but bathing caps are required although these can be purchased from reception and it is shut from 2.00 to 4.00 – just when it would seem to be most useful to us. When it was open there always seemed to be loud music so we didn’t use it, which is a shame.
There was a large amount of noise from outside the side – we think from the aqua park across the road which played loud disco music all day and well into the evening. At weekends this went on until 2.00 in the morning! The railway is also quite noisy and trains run all night and echo off the cliff wall at the back of the campsite.
The site has its own beach club with the typical rows of umbrellas and loungers which is across the main road and railway and not signposted. It’s about a 10 minutes walk. They run a small shuttle road train to take people to and fro but we used our bikes and this is obviously a popular choice because they provide a bike rack at the beach. There is also a very pleasant bike track for a couple of miles along the sea front. For us in June the pool and beach loungers were free but these are charged for in high season.
The restaurant was good value with a fixed price 3 course meal including a bottle of wine. The on-site shop is a good sized mini supermarket and prices were reasonable.
Wifi was free and quick but had very limited range out from reception area and we couldn’t get it at our pitch.
If you’re looking for a busy typically Italian resort type campsite then this would be a good choice. The facilities are good, but the constant noise and frustration with the pool led us to leave a day early.
