We had an enjoyable 3rd visit to this campsite which is very well positioned on the island to cycle too most places on the island. Will return in 2 years time.
Firstly, this is a very pleasant site and we would return. It is quiet, has indoor table tennis and a heated pool with a sliding roof, which was ideal given the cold wind that was prevalent during our stay. Bread and croissants are available by pre-ordering and delivered to your pitch in the morning.
However, we can’t help observing that the description of amenities must have been put together with significant help from Hans Christian Andersen! Examples: There are not separate indoor/outdoor pools (there is a separate toddlers pool, which was closed whilst we were at the site). The (rather small looking) grocery shop had closed for the season; we saw no sign of a bar, restaurant, snack-bar or takeaway food other than a mobile pizza van that visits the site 3 times per week. Pancakes by the pool and breakfast - both included in the description - are only realistic if you prepare them yourself! As for the site being suitable for vans up to 12m and 8 tonnes, I can only comment that it must be a great spectator sport! My 8m, 4 tonne van went in but only just!
Joking aside, this charming, simple site does itself no credit by exaggerating (and I’m being kind) it’s amenities and can be seen in a positive light with a more honest appraisal. More importantly, it undermines the ASCI guide if you cannot rely on the descriptions.
We arrived late afternoon to find only 1 pitch available for 1 night. Able to inspect the pitch before accepting. Pitches seemed very crammed together and not very large, no grass in sight, presumably due to end of season and very dry summer. Hedges and trees seemed to gave been cut back, presumably to improve access ( which still wasn\'t great for our 6m long van) but to the cost of any privacy.Toilet block not overly clean by our arrival time and showers seemed to be locked after dark. We left early next morning to find something more suitable just a small distance up the coast. Not worth the top ACSI rate.
Firstly, this is not a bad site. It’s quiet, peaceful and well run. We enjoyed our stay here.
Secondly, the site description in the ASCI guide is a fairy tale. We stayed here for 4 nights in early September, 2019. There is no bar, no restaurant, no snack bar and the pizza van visits 3 times per week. Additionally, the groceries were unavailable after we’d arrived on September 1st.
The site states that it is suitable for vans up to 12m and 8 tonnes. We were challenged to park our 8m and <4 tonnes motorhome and saw many others in the same position.
We would urge ASCI to ask this site - and any others like it - to update their details to reflect reality...
Lovely site in an excellent location Ile de Re is superb in every way and a paradise for cyclists.
Second visit to this site and would definitely go again.
Four elements of this review I feel unable to give a valid comment on therefore I have left blank.
This campsite no longer has any catering services. No shop, bread only if pre ordered. Absolute minimum guest services. A very different campsite from the ACSI description and last year. It must be in new ownership who do not want to give the services but still charge the same price. Think carefully before booking!
