We had a short but enjoyable stay here and had no problem finding the site on approaching from the D562 and then finding the reception.
We were welcomed by a very pleasant owner and shown to our pitch opposite the riverside pitches.
The pitch was small but adequate for our large caravan, canopy and car but would not accomodate a large awning.
Toilets & showers were clean. The fresh water supply is at the motorhome waste disposal point and the hosepipe left on the floor so very unhygenic. The electric supply was behind a large hedge so difficult to reach.
The few riverside pitches are very close together and if all taken, other campers can\'t get access to the river front.
There are several restaurants on the opposite side of the river that overlook the site but we were not disturbed by these.
During our stay there were parties of youngsters camping at the site but they were very well behaved and again we were not disturbed by them.
For the active amongst us, there are some lovely walks and cycling routes along with watersports and rock-climbing.
With some improvements to pitches and space to sit by the river this could be a lovely site. We would certainly return.
Came to stay for a week and ending up staying nearly 2 weeks. Lovely area for walking, owner supplied 6 walking maps for us, 4 of them from the campsite. Toilets are not big enough when the site is full but lots of hot water in the showers and kept very clean. Had a lovely river pitch with lots of activity on the water. Although there are restaurants on the other side of the river we didn’t hear noise from them at all. Village is under mile away and has a bakery and butchers and small shop. The campsite owners are lovely and extremely helpful. We would return here.
Disappointment! First of all, the overgrown entrance and roadway into the campsite made it hard to find the Reception. This was in a large open sided building with lots of seating, rather a strange set-up. Pitch next to the river allocated (most pitches too small for a 7 metre camper) but electricity supply across the road through a hedge. Although sounding good, the pitch was overlooked by restaurants across the river. Canoeists (youth group) were particularly noisy and restaurant staff chatted well into the night with their voices carrying. Woken early by music from one of the site\\\'s chalets and people going off to work, from the campsite. Two toilet blocks, one was okay, the other very dated (one look was enough not to use it). Did not eat at the campsite. Went to find a drink at bar but door was closed with a note owners gone home, ring if anything needed. Didn\\\'t ring!! Idyllic situation but not living up to its potential. Would we go back? No.
Dear Mrs Fox, Regarding your message I have to provide you some explanations. First of all the entrance of campsite is indicated with two signals Reception and Bureau, the size of reception building is more than 150m², this is the biggest building at the entrance. We receive campers everyday, they are more often 7 metre campers. Regarding our note owners it is written \"Ring bell for service\", we could be closed but we\'ve preferred putting a message to be available when someone arrives or needs something, why didn\'t you ring ? We\'ve made this note cause we could be very busy on the campsite (place a camper, repairs, gardening and FYI we have a little baby of five months....) and running a campsite is a hard work..... Regarding the noise, it could happen, but it\'s not the image of our campsite, Please have a look on the message below and other websites you will understand that our campsite is a family and friendly place, I am very sorry that you didn\'t feel the same. Ludovic,
Our first impression was what a wonderful site.
The pitches are nice and reasonably level but very narrow, some too narrow to fit an awning.
The one and only central fresh water tap we could find is also the only drain point and everyone used this tap to empty/rinse out their waste tanks so it was both smelly and the tap contaminated.
Although it borders the river only 5 pitches are really adjacent and these were taken and fiercely protected by long stayers. When the kayaks come down the river to shoot the rapids most people go down to watch but can’t see because of pitches in the way.
We witnessed one elderly couple sitting at the river edge to watch being actually threatened with violence by one of the pitch occupants if they did not leave. The site owner was informed but nothing seemed to change.
The toilets are modern, no soap, no paper but super hot power shower. The pot washing area was not very clean and the water only tepid.
It could be so good here and we would love to return when they sort out the river frontage so at least a small part is made accessible for all to sit and watch and the fresh water supply tap is separated from the drain area.
On a positive the local town is lovely with everything you need, opposite are eateries together with kayak hire etc. It’s a beautiful spot and has a lot going for it so perhaps we were just unlucky?
Superb site right on the riverbank good facilities good food good cider owners very helpful
We stayed on this site for 4 nights as we started our holiday and again for 4 night at the end as it is very handy for Cherbourg. It\'s a pleasant site right on the banks of the Orne river. All pitches are of a good size. Lovely reception area and good English spoken the owners who were very friendly and helpful. Two amenity blocks one older but both kept spotless and constant hot water. Free Wi-Fi at the reception and a free glass of cider on arrival made this an enjoyable stop. This is in a beautiful area and well worth a visit. I rate this site highly and would certainly stay again.
The staff were very friendly and spoke quite good English. They were very helpful about queries for services in the village. The sites were generous in size, separated by hedges so somewhat private and in a lovely environment with trees around the site and the river behind. The toilet facilities were clean but without toilet seats and toilet paper as seems common in France.
Another visit to this welcoming site. This year the weather was lovely, and the staff as friendly and helpful as ever. The expanded restaurant area incorporating a shop and office area has been done beautifully. Nothing is too much trouble for the proprietors Ludovic and Sandy. The river was clean but quite busy at the weekend, but the weekdays were quiet and it is basically a beautiful peaceful site, within an hour or the ferry port at Oiusterham. Lots of things to do nearby in Swiss Normandy - next year we will come for longer! Recommended.
We only stayed here for one night on our way further South. However, we were very impressed and we are likely to return for a longer stay in the future. Some of the pitches overlook the river and are lovely. The owners are very pleasant, and are doing a lot of work on the site. well worth a visit.
This is an excellent camp site have stayed hear many times. It is run by a lovely couple who truly value you as a client. They do improvements every year. I think this year into 2017 a new reception is to be built with kitchen facilities and a dining area.
