Visited early July nice setting. In chateau grounds, did not get try swimming pool as it was closed due to thinder storms when we where their. Nice large pitches & got to chose our pitch, plenty of shade on some piches only negative places to empty gray water sparse. Toilets were clean but could do with updating. Signage outside the site could be better we would have missed it if was not for some locals who were very kind and stopped to tell us where it was. Couldn\'t find the boules alley or the table tennis may have been in a barn which was locked as was the tv room Having said that we would visit again if in the area.
Handy stop over site or if visiting Oradour-sur-Glane. Pitches generally in shade under trees. Had problems with low voltage causing fridge to keep switching off (Thetford automatic fridge!). Nice site but a bit pricey.
We used this as a stop over and also to visit Oradour-sur-Glane which is a few miles away. If you approach in a different direction than from the nearby motorway, signposting is poor, resulting in some tricky manoeuvres on small windy roads. Access through gate was also a little tight for our 7.5m caravan. Site itself is very picturesque, and you can wander in grounds of adjacent chateau, seeing nearby deer. Our pitch was large, tho somewhat uneven front-back and left/right. Grass rather long. Restaurant and take-away very good. Swimming pool excellent but cold. English spoken by some staff, and all very friendly.
This site is all about location. It is set in the grounds of a gorgeous small Chateau in a quiet country setting with lovely well signed walks and mountain cycle routes from the campsite. The staff were very welcoming and accommodating. The pitches and the toilets/showers are in need of some TLC but were clean. We experienced 2 power cuts while we were on site, these were town wide and out of owners control, he even came around to update us all. The wifi here is not free and was not particularly fast either. The card machine was on order apparently that meant it was cash only. Waste water was also broken but alternatives were offered. All in all we would definitely consider this site again, but feel it is a bit pricey compared to others we have stayed on. The staff and location are the stars on this site without a doubt.
Beautiful scenery, you couldn\'t ask for a better location. Excellent pitches of a good size. Water taps a little awkward but forgivable.
Nice hot water in the showers and the facilities are clean.
Restaurant is clean and the food is very good with very friendly, helpful couple running it.
Only stayed one night for a stopover, but I\'ve added to my favourites list and next time hoping to stay longer.
in my opinion this is more an adults site, which suited us! Beautiful chateau and grounds.... if you walk down to the lake keep moving or you\'ll get bitten by ants ! Lovely relaxing pool (no kids pool). The bar appears to be closed but just ask in reception and they\'ll get you a drink. The owner doesn\'t speak English but there is a lovely English lady there most days. Very nice wine and so cheap too ! Excellent food in restaurant and the young lady who runs it & serves is really chatty & friendly. Loads of water & elec points and pitches large but slightly sloping away from reception. Toilets spotless but no wash basin in room with cubicles. They could do with a small basic shop selling milk etc, have to go to expensive Spar 10 min drive away. One thing really put us off was wandering dogs. Cant comment on Wifi as we didn\'t try it.
While this is one of our favorite sites the facilities do not match up to the 5* rating. The surrounding area is very pretty with off road cycle routes, walks and museums. There is plenty for you to see both on the doorstep and further away. The staff are excellent, pitches large and as long as you accept that the showers can be cold and the toilets cramped this is a lovely site close to the main north/south routes. Facilities need to be radically improved to merit the 5* rating though. Site closes mid September which is a shame as I am sure that more people would stay later in the season.
Stayed here again on the way down to south of France. Lovely site that we would like to stay longer at but never seem able to.
Used as stopover for one night on two occasions. It is a very pleasant site with a Chateau with beautiful grounds and a lake. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food good to average.
This sounded good in the book. Thought we'd treat ourselves to dinner at the campsite restaurant after a long journey. Very expensive! In the summer, we wouldn't use that much electricity in a week. A small brown loaf costs a lot of money! Nowhere to dump waste water. The restaurant was next to the toilet block, with smelly drains, so we avoided it. The shower I took was broken, the shower head was split from the pipe, so instead of a shower, I got a geyser of very hot water. The pitches were all grass, no hard standing and no dividing hedges, so little privacy, and would not be so good in wet weather. This is a site with great pretensions. Yes, there is a small castle, but you can't see inside. There is a lake, but to get to it you have to climb down steep and overgrown paths (no signs) and past the biggest anthill in Europe. Poor value.
