The site is in a park adjacent to the town and although it is a pleasant site it was very noisy at night. This seemed to be coming from the restaurant bar just across a narrow river in the same park.
We had emailed the site 2 days asking if it was necessary to book. We were advised it was not necessary as there were lots of pitches. We arrived just before the office opened at 2pm. There was already a queue and the site looked very busy. When the office opened a group came from the Aire adjacent and started talking to the receptionist. She totally ignored the queue and after some discussion let them through the barrier.
When it was our turn we were told that a large group had arrived unexpectedly and if we wanted a quiet weekend that may not happen. We had already travelled long enough so paid for 3 nights.
Whilst I understand the group had arrived unexpectedly they really had no idea how many were coming in at that point and if we had been booked if there was indeed space. It was totally disorganised. The group were crammed in like sardines using virtually every spare bit of grass. I am used to this on foreign sites but this was beyond anything I has seen. We eventually found a pitch although not clearly marked it was difficult to know where the pitch started and ended.
There were also quite a few contractor vans and travellers pitched.
Opposite us were log cabins - throughout the day cars arrived and were parking anywhere including the Motorhome service point.
The 2nd day more cars arrived to the cabins. I have no issue with the noise during the day it’s lovely to see families getting together however this is the only French site I have stayed on where there is no rule about no noise after 10.30. Throughout the night until 2am in the morning there was shouting and dogs barking. We decided to leave after only 2 nights and whilst they apologised for the noise they obviously don’t care as there would be some kind of ruling. We were warned there would be noise but I didn’t expect it early in the morning.
The toilet facilities couldn’t cope with the number in site. The new block is small however the old block much larger is in need of updating.
The site looks lovely on entrance, has a lovely reception area but that’s where it ends. The actual site is not well kept.
The Motorhome service point if you can get to it doesn’t have a drain tank - you have to use the Aire next door.
We wouldn’t return even if we had been offered a refund for the night we didn’t use.
In a lovely setting but could be so much better presented. Only stayed on 2 night stopover. First impression was disappointing as there were several long stay ‘vans (workers) on site and pitches had not been kept very tidy (strimmed). Several statics were occupied by groups of workers. I accept it was early season but this did not create a family site feeling. Staff helpful. Easy access to town and park. Pool not used. Food and drink not sampled. Park restaurant looked nice but not used.
We stayed here just one night as it was convenient to our journey. There is a bus stop just a 5 minute walk away with a free bus service into Chateauroux. The site is located next to a lovely public park containing a good restaurant with views across the lake. Unfortunately the site itself was very disappointing being very scruffy and unkempt. However, the staff were very good and most helpful.
A lovely quiet woodland campsite. The proprietor was wonderful she even bought our takeaway food up to our plot.
Super swimming pool as well.
3 toilets ansd showers for whole site. Not clean Many water taps comandeered by travellers with washing machines outside vans. Chemical toilet offsite in municipal site. Site maintenance almost nil and carried out by itinerants resident on site. Sad, was a good site 2015 and 2016
Just an overnight stopover. place quite scruffy with some dubious people pitched around the site.Didn't feel to comfortable won't be going back.
Hallo, we hebben veel van het passeren van een nacht en alles gaat heel goed, we hopen je te zien op een aankomende passage over chateauroux.
Met vriendelijke groeten
The grounds are unkempt and scruffy. The toilet block that is open offers no hot water for showers and the floor is constantly wet from cleaning with a hose as are the walls and toilets. There is no evidence of a bar , restaurant or supermarket on site. The chemical toilet has to be emptied off site in the aire next door. Roadways are not lit up at night. The staff are virtually non existent and allow their dog to roam the site. Very disappointing.
We used this site as a one night stopover, however, we would have been happy to spend a few days here. The receptionist was helpful in check in. There were plenty of pitches to choose from with plenty of shade. Toilet/shower facilities were shared but that is no problem for us. We walked over to the park & bar/restaurant there & had a lovely evening taking in the sunset over a carafe of wine followed by a nice reasonably priced meal. All in all a good stopover especially if you don't want to cook!
We stayed at this site as it was convenient for a family wedding in a nearby village. In all we were there for 6 nights. Very much a transient site with most visitors staying just one or two nights. The reception advertises English spoken but we did not experience that - not a problem as we always try to speak in French and generally can get by. Close to the historic and beautiful city of Chateauroux and adjacent to an attractive park with a large lake. It sounds an idyllic location but the park - quite rightly - is extensively used and as a consequence the campsite during our stay was noisy by day and night. We experienced 2 days of celebrations for Bastille Day and a weekend international triathlon which necessitated the campsite entrance being closed throughout most of the Saturday and Sunday. There is also a fairly busy airport nearby used for both civil and military aircraft. The toilets, showers and washing up areas were cleaned once daily in the morning. Pitches beyond the first 5 - 6 rows gave a very neglected feel, as did a small children's play area. However, close to the reception, there is a very pleasant and nicely furnished tv and free wi fi room. The local gendarmerie made two daily visits around the campsite, probably as part of there security checks on the adjacent park.
