A lovely overnight campsite in the centre of the town with plenty of trees and greenery all around. A lovely footpath leads from the campsite through the park to the cathedral. The river flows past the campsite. Refurbished playground for the children.

When we stayed here 17 years ago in a tent the welcome was pretty unfriendly and it hasn’t improved. At least then when they knew we were Australian the attitude changed....gotta feel for the Brits. The toilets are still awful...no seats or toilet paper. It’s no wonder Motorhomers are choosing free camps. If it wasn’t for the beautiful city centre we would leave. Surely these reviews must hurt their business!
We have wanted to visit the famous cathedral at Chartres for some time, but it has always fallen outside of our main routes from the UK and down to the Mediterranean. Landing at Dieppe, it seemed more logical and we found this campsite through the ACSI network. Situated very close to the town it is perfectly placed, and we enjoyed a pleasant walk along the river into the centre, taking about thirty minutes.
The campsite was easy to find and the office is open throughout the day, even in low season. It seems to attract a lot of British motorhomes for overnight stays, but we’re not sure which route they are taking or where they are going. It is a generously spaced campsite, with lots of electrical points, although there is little in the way of hardstanding. The electricity supply must have been low amperage, as were unable to boil a kettle with the heating on. We soon learned what not to do, but a higher power rating would have been better.
There is free WiFi on the site, but you would need to be in, or near to the office for it to work. There is a small, reasonably priced shopping corner with a few of the basics, and a ‘frites’ kiosk which presumably, is open in high season. The site has ample play areas for children, although on our visit, we were entertained more by ducks, pheasant & woodpeckers.
We were pleased to see a smart, newly roofed toilet block but, sadly, what it housed was a bit old & tired. There was plenty of hot water, but the toilets & shower area were not heated which was such a shame.
We would come again as the overall package was acceptable, but it would be nice to have a little heat and more power.
This campsite is perfectly situated a 25 minutes walk away from Chartres with its wonderful Cathedral. The site itself is fine but our experience was marred by the rather rude and unwelcoming behaviour of the woman at reception. Also at 5.30am on a Sunday morning when it was still dark everyone was disturbed by scores of people arriving in their cars and setting up a boot sale right in the middle of the site about 20 feet away from us. It was incredible! Not exactly what you need on a restful holiday! To cap it all when we went to collect our bread and croissant order at 8.15 the same woman at reception said she had sold them to the boot sale people - no apology. We would not return.
Excellent site for a stopover in July. Easily findable by satnav from the route through Rouen. Lots of pitches, partially shaded. Didn\'t use the facilities, so can\'t comment. Had difficulty finding a tap (in the washing machine room) & waste bins.
A tired looking camp site. 3 out of 4 water taps I tried didn\'t work (when I enquired was told there was a problem underground - an out of order sign would have been useful). Sanitary block in need of update. ASCI period finished mid June the earliest I have seen. The site is however is a very pleasant riverside walk to central Chartres. Which was well worth spending half a day in.
After reading previous reviews, we were going to give this site a miss. Glad we didn\'t. Nice quiet wooded location, close to town. Handy for overnight stop over. Staff have a quirky sense of humour. We had to hunt for water, as working taps were in short supply. Toilets need improvement and toilet paper would not go amiss.
Apart from that, it was fine
We stopped here on the way back. Initially it looks very pretty, but it is run by an old couple who really don\'t seem bothered. The lady had no idea where my passports was and when she did locate it gave me someone else\'s. The water points weren\'t working and the toilets were diabolical. On arrival 2 of the 3 ladies weren\'t working, and the next morning the 3rd was blocked. The only other toilets available were of the French \"stand over\" style. For the 1st time we left a site without showering - they were just not clean enough. The bins in the toilets were overflowing. We had ordered bread for 8am. It arrived at 8.20 and to be honest wasn\'t worth waiting for. Make sure you bring your European adapter plug unless you want to pay for one at reception. THe location of this site is what ensures it\'s survival and as a result the owners know they don\'t need to try.
We were on the site 5 days after it had opened for 2017 season. It had wintered badly, all the pitches were unusable so we pitched on the road. The toilets were out of action and there was no running water on site. Water was available at the reception area. To be fair we were told all of this and given the option before we paid for a \"pitch\" or rather space. Unfortunately we had had a nightmare journey up from Clermont-Ferrand, horrendous winds and heavy squalls so I was in no state to start looking for another site so late on. Under normal circumstances I would not have entertained it. Going off previous reviews they seem to be consistent problems.
Also had been put off visiting this campsite by the reviews but it was fine for an overnight stop on our way home however could imagine what it would be like had the weather been wet, think the pitches would be bad. Facilities weren\'t too bad either although my shower was a bit lukewarm but again, the weather was warm so not too bad. Lovely walk into Chartres through a park and along the river, lovely for the dog. Well worth the visit and plan to stop again to see Chartres by night....the walk back would be lit.
Excellent site for visiting Chartres (an easy walk away), a pleasant and interesting place. Looks like a new toilet block, clean and pleasant with the exception of the French-style toilets, which don\'t please the British! Some of the pitches a bit bare after dry summer, but plenty of grassy ones . Most of the site is under large trees which was an advantage in the hot weather we encountered. Definitely recommend.
