Yet another pleasant stay at La Gagère. We were able to relax in a very friendly environment. The pool was particularly welcome and we enjoyed two good half day walks from the site with clear maps and instructions available from reception.
Lovely, well-run site, in a beautiful place. We would have got on better at the meal if there hadn\'t been so many Dutch campers there, who were understandably reluctant to practice their English on us (they were better than they thought). Would have been better to have had tables for two to save their (and our) embarrassment.
Having said that, the owners worked very hard to make us feel welcome and our stay a pleasant one.
We returned to La Gagere at the beginning of June and received a very warm welcome from Floor. She and Tim have bought the site and are continuing with the fine hospitality that we have previously enjoyed at this site. We were fortunate with the weather and had a very good pitch. As on previous visits under Mary and Thom the facilities were absolutely spotless and clean as was the pool. Toilet paper is now provided and double roll dispensers mean it never runs out. Very hot water is always on tap and among the improvements made is the provision of a small dishwashing machine at evry one of the sanitaires. That sounds utterly stupid but IT WORKS. The machines are quite small and take only 5 minutes for the full cycle. The dshes come out so hot that they don\'t need drying and Floor hopes that the cost that she and Tim pay will be offset by savings in water consumption and water heating costs. Obviously it is very environmentally friendly with less use of detergents, water and heating. The pitches are all grassed and the pitch maintenance is meticulous. As soon as a pitch is vacated the grass is mowed ready for the next occupant. None of the pitches were at all dusty and this contrasted greatly with another site that we visited further south where pitch maintenance was severely lacking with the consequence that dut was an utter nuisance.
We did not try the on site restaurant thougn the menus looked good and were very varied. The on site shop is small but provides daily bread to order and a few essentials but Luzy has a good Lidl and another B1 (Auchan) supermarket. Walks and boules afternoon tournaments are organised regularly - even out of season.
We really enjoyed our 10 days there and will certainly return.
Thank you Floor and Tim for all your hard work - every success - it is well deserved.
We arrived at La Genese in the late afternoon of a very hot day and after a long drive to a very warm welcome from Mary. We were shown a variety of pitches from which to choose. The site is exteremely well run by Thom and Mary who have built it up over very many years. It is well landscaped with a variety of sunny or shaded pitches. Toilet blocks are numerous and spotlessly clean with plenty of VERY hot water - but no paper provided. The pool was clean, warm and well maintained. The shop is very small but has the essentials for emergencies, including bread. There are pleasant walks in the area including a two hour walk each week led by Thom. Autun is a very pleasant nearby town where we ate a very reasonable and first class lunch at Le Petit Rolin, by the cathedral. To our shame we did not sample the camp restaurant during our stay. Autun also has a LeClerc supermarket and Luzy has a Lidl. La Gagere is an excellent site, well placed and we will return to enjoy Mary and Thom's warm hospitality
What a lovely ,site, made to feel very welcome, will definitely come again the views are spectacular once you get to the end of a long narrow track.
