We stayed at this site for 5 days in late June/early July, just as the ACSI discount period was ending. This site is good value on ACSI, and may suit many people, especially those with families. You will find generous pitches in places, and there is an excellent swimming pool complete with toilets, changing rooms and showers.
However, to us the site had a strange feel. The only reasonable pitches are all opposite the children’s play area, so there was a Bouncy Castle installed for a few hours each day, and on Sunday from 10.00 am until 10.20 pm, when they took it down at my request for sleeping! It was noisy.
The toilet section comprises a couple of rows of (very good, and plumbed in) festival type cubicles. These give good privacy, and include loos, wash rooms and showers. The showers are very short on space for hanging clothes or kit – just one peg for everything, and little room to dress when finished. On one occasion the hot water ran out after a while.
Also, the provision for toilet cassette waste is at the Motor Home disposal point at the other end of the site – too far to carry a full cassette. As a result, the tendency is for these to be emptied in the toilet section, which needs great care to avoid spillage – which is not always avoided. Then there is no water available for rinsing out either. There is also no place for grey water disposal, but that is the norm on most French sites we have visited.
Now, there is also a rule that the camp is a ‘car free zone’, so many people staying in the many chalets leave their car outside the camp barriers – not great for security, or if, for example, you carry a kayak on your car as we do. This rule did not seem to apply to the corner reserved for caravans, however, and we could park by our caravan. It may be that this rule would be fully active later in the season.
Finally, you have a choice of many pitches…but 51 of them are in a densely wooded area, intricately interwoven between the trees. We drove our caravan of 7.2 metres into this area (one entrance only, and you exit here also) and followed the main track around, but could only get ourselves out by disengaging the caravan and using the motor mover. Once you were going in, there was no easy way out! Avoid unless a small caravan or a tent. So the only decent pitches were all adjacent to the bouncy castle…
We enjoyed our time in the area, and really liked the swimming pool, but when we return, we will go to another site in the same area rather than this one, which felt a bit like a dead zone, as the caravan section, at the top right hand of the grounds, seemed to be an afterthought to their main business of letting out cabins, despite listing over 70 camping/caravan pitches, creatively adjoining each other on what is some quite bumpy heavily forested or semi forested ground.
Thank you for your message, we are delighted that you appreciated your stay and we invite you to visit other Campéole campsite in mountain and countryside or seaside. Best regards :-)
